TALLINN, ESTONIA, SEPTEMBER 5th, 2018 – Natufia Labs, an Estonian-born startup developing machine-learning technology that grows plants right in your kitchen, announced the closing of a $1.2-million seed round today led by Butterfly Ventures, Techstars, and the Dubai-based family office Ginco Investments.

“Natufia Labs’ dynamic team has a groundbreaking impact on producing fresh food and changing the ways people consume it,” shares Juho Risku, partner at Butterfly Ventures. “Natufia Labs is changing the traditional agriculture model, which has $10B+ in annual revenue in the United States alone.”

“Consumers are increasingly looking for fresh, diverse, and nutritious food options. Veganism is booming, but traditional agriculture cannot follow the demand in a sustainable manner. We provide a sustainable and simple solution that reconnects people with nature without compromising on quality and taste,” says Gregory Lu, Natufia Founder & CEO.

Established in 2014, the company has developed the Natufia Kitchen Garden, a high-end indoor garden to grow plants and herbs automatically with high-precision computer-controlled technology. Natufia Labs’ business model is a machine-pod hybrid model similar to Nespresso: it sells technology/appliances and recurring seed pods directly to consumers.

“Natufia’s objective is to restore taste and the reliability of healthy food. Today, we do not even know what is on our plates, who made it, or where this food is coming from. With the Natufia Kitchen Garden, you have direct access to fresh and pure food throughout the year. The future depends on the decentralization of food production.”

Gregory Lu, Natufia Founder & Ceo
